Half-Day Workshop: DiSC

Have you ever met someone and walked away from them and thought. “Wow. That person is amazing. They are so much like me!” or had the opposite experience of thinking “I actually have no idea what planet that person is from!” We can sometimes have the perception that someone, be it a customer, a team member, a manager is difficult, when in fact, they are just different from us.

Last week, I had the pleasure of collaborating with an exceptional Real Estate Agency for their annual "Kick Off Event," focusing on enhancing self-awareness and understanding others. Through my half-day workshop on DiSC, participants embarked on a journey of self-discovery and gained invaluable insights into navigating interpersonal dynamics.

I vividly remember my own DiSC accreditation experience, which helped me realise that not everyone thinks, feels, or behaves like me. Since this time, I have worked with many leaders, team members and organisations on increasing their behavioural flexibility.

In our daily interactions, we encounter individuals with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and communication styles. These differences can sometimes lead to miscommunication, misunderstandings, and conflicts. However, with the right tools and mindset, we can bridge these gaps and foster stronger connections.

To be more effective in building rapport and relationships it is essential to:

1.    Be self-aware:
Self-awareness is the cornerstone of emotional intelligence. By understanding our own preferences and tendencies, we can navigate interactions with external and internal customers with greater ease.

2.    Observe and Be Aware of Others:
Developing empathy and awareness of others' needs, preferences, and non-verbal cues is crucial for building rapport and fostering mutual understanding.

3.    Adapt:
The key to successful communication lies in adaptation. By learning to flex our behaviour according to the needs of others, we can enhance collaboration and minimise conflicts.

The most important element of DiSC is not just awareness of others, but learning to adapt to others. This requires a level of discomfort and also developing behavioural flexibility. I have always said it is like being a Chameleon, changing as needed.

The DiSC workshop remains one of my favourites to facilitate, and I am always thrilled to read feedback from participants:

Thanks so much for the day, it was a lot of fun and genuinely very helpful! I’m normally very sceptical about these kinds of sessions but I feel like I got a lot out of it and it’s already helping me communicate better with my team.

Best trainer ever! Really enjoyed the whole session, very engaging and
Monique has great energy too. Amazing session! Thank you.

The DiSC profile was awesome! I will use the DiSC profile to consider other people’s communication styles more, both customers and colleagues. I have learnt how to adapt my style to communicate better with them.

And my favourite feedback of all:

The most valuable part of the training was realising there isn’t something wrong with me.

We are all unique, and embracing our differences is key to fostering inclusive environments where everyone can thrive.

And when we can learn to appreciate differences in others, we can learn to build a great relationship with anyone.
